Spring is the busiest season for ESA applications across the country. Multiple states open or close enrollment windows between March and June, and missing a deadline can mean waiting an entire year for the next opportunity. Here are the key dates every parent should know.
Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account program accepts applications year-round, but families applying for the 2026-2027 school year should submit by April 15 to ensure funds are available by the first day of school. Arizona offers one of the most generous ESA programs at $7,200+ per student with universal eligibility.
Florida's Family Empowerment Scholarship program has a priority deadline of March 1 for new applicants, with a secondary window in June for remaining funds. Florida awards range from $8,000 to $9,500 depending on grade level, and the program is now open to all Florida students regardless of income.
Texas launched its Education Freedom Account program in 2025, and the spring 2026 enrollment window opens March 15 through May 31. With $10,800 per student annually, Texas offers one of the highest ESA award amounts in the nation. All Texas students are eligible.
Iowa's Students First ESA program has rolling enrollment, but the recommended submission deadline for fall 2026 is April 30. Iowa's universal program provides $7,826 per student, with funds managed through the ClassWallet platform.
North Carolina's Opportunity Scholarship applications open February 1 and close June 1 for the 2026-2027 school year. Awards range from $7,468 for elementary students to over $11,000 for high school. Income eligibility has expanded significantly in recent years.
