The New Hampshire Education Freedom Account (EFA) provides state grants to families for customized education including private school tuition, homeschooling, tutoring, online learning, and educational materials. Administered by Children's Scholarship Fund NH. Universal eligibility as of 2025-2026.

Calculation: Base aid: $4,265.64 per student. Additional differentiated aid: +$2,392.92 for free/reduced lunch eligibility, +$2,184.84 for students with IEP, +$832.32 for English language learners. Maximum: $8,843.40 for students qualifying for all supplements. Amounts based on 2025-2026 school year state funding formula.

Step-by-Step Application Guide

1. Visit nh.scholarshipfund.org/apply/ to access application portal. 2. Gather required documents: NH state ID or driver license, proof of residency (utility bill, lease, mortgage), student birth certificate. 3. Complete online application (separate portals for new vs. returning families). 4. Upload all required documents in PDF format. 5. Submit by July 15 for full funding. 6. Wait 4-6 weeks for processing. 7. If approved, sign EFA Agreement. 8. Receive ClassWallet account access for purchasing.

πŸ“Š Academic Requirements

Testing & Assessments

Choose one of three options annually: 1) Nationally-standardized norm-referenced achievement test, 2) New Hampshire statewide student assessment (RSA 193-C:6), 3) Portfolio evaluation by certified teacher including reading log, writing samples, worksheets, and creative materials

Mandate: Annual assessment required - choose standardized test, NH state assessment, or portfolio review
Attendance Requirements

Cannot attend district public school or charter school full-time while receiving EFA

Academic Progress Standards

Annual Record of Educational Attainment required for renewal

Reporting Requirements

Submit Record of Educational Attainment by end of each school year for renewal eligibility. Portfolio option requires evaluation by certified teacher selected by parent.

Renewal Process

Automatic consideration for renewal if Record of Educational Attainment submitted and student remains eligible (NH resident, age 5-20, not attending public/charter school full-time)
